Urine

Hillcrest offers free, confidential urine pregnancy testing for any woman whose menstrual period is two weeks late. * Call for hours of testing.

Blood

Hillcrest also offers an early blood serum pregnancy test which may be performed as early as 10-14 days after unprotected intercourse. The blood test is 98% effective. Results may be obtained the same day. The fee for the blood test is $20.

If your test is positive, Hillcrest's counseling staff can discuss your pregnancy with you. Just call (757)480-2800. We'll help you explore all your options and provide referral sources including abortion, adoption, and prenatal care.

If your test is negative but you continue to experience symptoms of pregnancy -- missed or lighter periods, breast tenderness, nausea, or fatigue -- return to Hillcrest in two weeks for another urine or blood test.

If your test is negative, you may still be pregnant. Reasons for false negatives can include:
- Your pregnancy is very early, within the first six weeks of conception.
- Your pregnancy is ectopic - the pregnancy is in the fallopian tube.
- A low level of a hormone called HCG results in the pregnancy being undetected.

If your test result is negative but you continue to experience symptoms of pregnancy -- missed or lighter periods, breast tenderness, nausea, or fatigue -- return to Hillcrest in two weeks for another urine test or a blood test.
